Roger, I have been truly blessed to get to know you and work with you on the committee and your friendship means so much. I have learned so much from you and I appreciate all you have done and the manner in which you interact with people, including myself. Thank you.
Greg Burgess, Chief Credit Officer

Roger, I have come to appreciate the time we have spent on the Community Bank Council and getting to know one another. I wish you the best in your retirement and I hope that you find time to enjoy and stay healthy. Your friend,

Hi Roger, I’m sorry to hear that your health is declining but happy that you are doing the right thing to take care of yourself. I’m sure the last year has been very difficult for you. I know how much you love your profession and hope that you will keep tabs on us. I consider you to be a National treasure and will certainly keep tabs on you! Thank you for everything you have done to support RMA, but more importantly for your friendship. Be well my friend. Warmest regards,
Nancy J. Foster, President & CEO
The Risk Management Association

When I read the news article about Roger’s retirement, I thought to myself, “Roger Shumway retire? No way! Bank of Utah won’t let him do that!!” Congratulations, Roger. I have fond memories of our working together during your First Security/Wells Fargo tenure, and all that I learned from you. Thanks for being a good friend with a wonderful sense of humor. Best wishes on your retirement!
Doug Monson, Ray Quinney & Nebeker

Roger,
Congratulations on your many accomplishments both professional and personal. It’s wonderful to read your many accolades. Your mom and dad are certainly proud of the honor you have brought to their name. It appears that so far I am the only physician paying a tribute to you. Let me just say that none of the others have commented on the special relationship you had with the Mongolian government minister of treasury that we worked with together. Give Janet and all your family my best.

Douglas B Nielsen, MD FAAP

Roger,
Best wishes on your retirement, though it is a shock to this old teacher from Viewmont. If your service to the Danegeld is indicative of your service to your profession, you have been a giant to look up to.

May the best be yours,
Ken Zeeman

Roger,
I am so grateful for all the opportunities you gave me. Thank you for getting me out of my shell! You were always willing to listen and you kept an open mind. I will miss seeing you every day and how you were always making us laugh. I wish you and your family all the best. Happy Retirement!

Virtual Hugs!
Becky Bingham

Roger, thanks for all you have done for me personally and for the Department. Your service on the Board of Bank Advisors has been extraordinary. I don't want to think of board meetings and banker events without you there to tease and reminisce about old times. Stay Safe and Stay Well. Take Care of your wife and growing family.
-Ed Leary

Roger,
Thank you for your many contributions to the community during your tenure with the Bank of Utah - we appreciate you! Enjoy your retirement!

Best, Tim Jackson

Roger,
Looking back from our days in college together at the University of Utah, then starting to work at First Security Bank going through the management training program under Bob Dove’s direction, you proved to be one of the best and brightest, and you have always been a trusted friend. I remember when you shared your secret of the ZCMI basement donut counter where they sold the chocolate-fudge donuts. Over the years you have proven yourself as a wise, kind, and dedicated leader. Most recently, it has been a pleasure to work with you at Bank of Utah. You have always been a supporter, a builder of people, kind and welcoming. Thank you for your friendship through the years.

Best wishes in your retirement, and may you have a very Merry Christmas, along with a glorious future.

Sincerely,
Mark Carpenter

I consider myself lucky to have crossed paths with you so many times in my life. First as next door neighbors growing up, then at First Security, and finally as my manager at Bank of Utah. I will miss having you as part of our team. Thank you for your mentorship. I wish you and Janet, and your family the absolute very best. I hope you continue to make them laugh - with you, not at you.
