Frequently Asked Questions

Can my business use both Remote Deposit Capture and Mobile Deposit?

Yes, you can use both.

Mobile Deposit comes standard with any Bank of Utah business account and is available at no charge through the Mobile App, making it easy to deposit individual checks.

Remote Deposit Capture is a paid service, ideal if you need to deposit multiple checks quickly using a scanner. If you occasionally need to deposit a check or two, Mobile Deposit is a convenient alternative.

How do I get started with Remote Deposit Capture?

If you already have a business account with Bank of Utah and are adding Remote Deposit Capture, follow these steps:

  1. Contact your nearest branch to connect with a Treasury Management sales specialist or a branch manager.
  2. Complete an application, and our TM team will handle the limit approval and necessary documentation.
  3. Sign the packet to finalize the process, and the scanner will be mailed to the specified location.
  4. Complete the training scheduled by our Treasury Management Operations team.

What does the scanner do in Remote Deposit Capture?

The scanner captures the front and back of each check placed in it, processes up to 30 or more checks at a time and applies an electronic endorsement on the back of each scanned check. It allows for quick and accurate deposit processing directly through Online Banking.

What should I do with the checks after I scan them?

When you deposit checks using a scanner or your mobile phone, they are processed by the bank just like a paper check brought into the bank. You must retain the physical checks securely for at least 60 days. After that, you should destroy them using an approved method.

What is the process of submitting checks through Remote Deposit Capture?
  1. After being approved for Remote Deposit Capture, you’ll receive a scanner and sign into Online Banking, where the service is accessible.
  2. Once logged in, select the account for deposit (multiple accounts can be linked to one scanner) and enter the deposit amount.
  3. Place the checks in the scanner; the deposit amount must match the total of the scanned checks.
  4. Deposits made before 6 p.m. will appear in your account just as if they were deposited at a branch.

How do I get started with Mobile Deposit?

To begin using mobile deposit, make sure you have a Bank of Utah account and are signed up for online and mobile banking. This setup allows you to access mobile deposit features through the Bank of Utah Mobile App. If you’re not already enrolled in online and mobile banking, sign up here or contact us to get started.

What’s the process of submitting checks through Mobile Deposit?

Once you’re set up with online and mobile banking, follow these steps to submit a check:

  1. Accept the check from your customer as usual.
  2. Endorse the check with your signature and the words "FOR MOBILE DEPOSIT ONLY BANK OF UTAH." Improperly endorsed checks may be rejected at the discretion of the bank.
  3. Open the Bank of Utah Mobile App and take a clear photo of the front and back of the endorsed check.
  4. With a few taps, securely send the check image through the app for deposit.

How should checks be endorsed for Remote Deposit and Mobile Deposit?

For Remote Deposit Capture, the scanner automatically provides a digital endorsement for you.

For Mobile Deposit, however, you must endorse the check with your signature and the words "FOR MOBILE DEPOSIT ONLY BANK OF UTAH." Checks that are not properly endorsed may be rejected at the bank's discretion.

What type of account do I need to get a scanner for Remote Deposit Capture?

A business checking or savings account is required to use Remote Deposit Capture.
